Fertilization and soil care

Bartlett offers the most intensive soil management programs in the landscape industry. Before any fertilization is prescribed or performed on your property, soil samples are taken from the property and soil nutrient status is analyzed.

Insect and disease management

Bartlett Tree Experts uses an integrated approach to managing insects and diseases on your property. This begins with maintaining plant health using sound cultural practices, including pruning and creating optimal soil conditions for plant growth.

Pruning

Pruning, or tree trimming, is a practice that is periodically required on all woody landscape plants on your property. Bartlett arborists can help you with mature pruning, young pruning, or specialty pruning.

Storm damage

Most damage to your property during severe weather events occurs due to falling trees and limbs. Based on the outcome of an inspection, Bartlett may recommend appropriate treatments such as pruning, installation of supportive cables or braces, and even lightning protection systems.

Tree inspections

During an inspection, an arborist can check the overall health of the trees, look for signs of pest and disease infestations, identify any structural problems, and determine soil requirements.

Identifying hazardous tree conditions

When there is a hanging branch or crack in a tree, it’s easy to see that a problem exists. Other issues may be more difficult to detect.
Simple solutions can make a big difference. Pruning can lessen branch weight and wind resistance. Cables and brace rods can also be effective in helping to limit branch movement and protect trees.

9/4/2026

Important advice for autumn

Fertilization is the single most important proactive measure you can take in caring for your trees this season. Soil care and fertilization in autumn dramatically improve growing conditions and provide the nutrients required for vital tree root development.

8/4/2026

Don't miss these warning signs

Trees under stress display key symptoms indicating a serious problem may exist. This includes wilting or loss of leaves/needles, yellowing of leaves or browning of needles, premature autumn color, early leaf drop and sappy spots on branches. Correctly identifying the underlying cause is critical to addressing tree health issues.

7/1/2026

Summer tree threats

Summer is a time of high activity for pests as well as tree diseases caused by fungi and other organisms. Some problems may be simply aesthetic, while others can be a real threat to tree health and vitality. As such, it is important to have an arborist check your trees to determine the underlying cause.

6/1/2026

Tree care recommendations for summer

Given the stress from higher temperatures and lack of rainfall comon in summer, it is critical to water your trees and shrubs thoroughly. Applying a 3-4" layer of mulch, inspecting for pest infestations and scheduling fall fertilization can also help maintain tree health and vigor.

5/4/2026

Critical care for trees

Now is a critical time of year to prepare your trees and shrubs for the coming summer. Healthy trees and shrubs are better able to withstand the higher temperatures and weather extremes that summer brings. Proper care in spring can help ensure the health of your landscape plants.

4/1/2026

Foliar diseases

Foliar diseases including anthracnose, apple scab, rust diseases and powdery mildew will be commonplace in our area this spring. These diseases result in unsightly discoloration, lesions or spots on leaves. Taking action now, before the disease can progress, provides the most effective control.

3/6/2026

Tree borers

In spring, damaging tree borers such as ambrosia beetles will start feeding inside tree roots and branches or tunneling beneath the bark. These pests cause signficant internal damage. Taking action in spring is the best way to prevent a major infestation.

2/10/2026

Prepare trees for spring

After winter ends, your trees and shrubs will be working hard to establish spring growth. A soil test in early spring can help determine the precise nutrients needed for that growth, yielding a fuller canopy and vibrant, health foliage.

1/6/2026

Winter pruning

Winter is the ideal time to prune many tree species. Removal of dead or diseased branches this time of year can greatly reduce the risk they pose to your home and property. Plus, pruning can improve the overall health and appearance of your trees, getting them in shape for spring.

11/4/2025

Check your trees for this common issue

Trees that seem to grow straight from the ground are likely in trouble from buried root collars. This issue increases the likelihood of insects and disease and inhibits the movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide. A buried root collar can also lead to girdling roots. When a buried root collar exists, it is best to address this problem sooner rather than later, as it can lead to the overall decline of the tree.

11/4/2025

Winter tree inspection

Colder temperatures and shorter days serve as a reminder that it’s time for your trees and shrubs to have a winter check-up. Now is the time to uncover issues such as weakly attached branches, dead wood, diseases, pest infestations and other problems before they can cause serious damage in the spring.
