Don't miss these warning signs
Trees under stress display key symptoms indicating a serious problem may exist. This includes wilting or loss of leaves/needles, yellowing of leaves or browning of needles, premature autumn color, early leaf drop and sappy spots on branches. Correctly identifying the underlying cause is critical to addressing tree health issues.

Watering trees
- The best time to water is the early morning hours.
- Whenever possible, use a soaker hose, drip irrigation, or low-pressure bubbler system.
- Irrigate newly planted trees and shrubs twice per week and established trees weekly.
- Do not apply water directly to the trunk. Instead, irrigate the root zone deeply.
- Mulch reduces water loss. A layer of mulch, placed from just off the trunk to the outer dripline, can dramatically help improve the root environment.
- Consider fertilization in autumn.

Drought resistant trees
Lack of water is the most common plant stress encountered in urban and suburban landscapes. In areas with persistent drought conditions, or those with a true dry season, selecting drought resistant and native species will result in a more sustainable landscape that is easier to maintain.
Drought resistant plants, such as Ginko and eastern Redbud, are adapted to live in dry conditions. Whenever selecting a tree, always consider the climate and hardiness zone before making a decision.

A little friendly competition goes a long way!
Our latest team-building event was a great success, bringing together both our field crew and office staff for an evening of rooftop beach volleyball. A big thank you to our friends at the Strathcona Hotel for hosting us and providing such fantastic snacks. It was a great opportunity to unwind, share some laughs, and discover that our team has plenty of talent beyond the trees! Thanks to everyone who came out and made it such a fun evening. We're already looking forward to the next one!

Summer tree threats
Summer is a time of high activity for pests as well as tree diseases caused by fungi and other organisms. Some problems may be simply aesthetic, while others can be a real threat to tree health and vitality. As such, it is important to have an arborist check your trees to determine the underlying cause.

Broadmead Care’s Charity Golf Tournament
Members of our Bartlett team had the opportunity to take part in Broadmead Care’s Charity Golf Tournament, joining fellow golfers and sponsors for a great day of friendly competition and community connection. The real highlight? Together, participants helped raise more than $218,000 in support of the renovation project at Veterans Memorial Lodge. We are grateful to have been part of an event that brought people together for such a meaningful cause. Thank you to Broadmead Care!

Community connections and outdoor learning
Our team had the opportunity to donate oak rounds from the Camosun Lansdowne student housing project to a local childcare program. What was once part of a mature tree has found a new purpose in the hands of some very creative young minds. These simple wood rounds have become balance beams, obstacle courses, stepping stones, insect habitats, and countless other imaginative creations. Used daily by the children, they’ve become a valued part of outdoor play and learning!

Tree care recommendations for summer
With the warmer temperatures of summer, it is critical to water your trees and shrubs thoroughly. Applying a 7-10cm layer of mulch, inspecting for pest infestations and scheduling autumn fertilization can also help maintain tree health and vigor.
