Mediterranean oak borer (MOB)
The MOB, an invasive, tree-killing beetle, was confirmed in Novato by the University of California in spring 2025. This ambrosia beetle is believed to have been introduced to California through infested wine barrel wood in Napa County and poses a significant threat to native oak trees, particularly mature valley oak (Quercus lobata) and blue oak (Quercus douglasii). MOB attacks can rapidly kill otherwise healthy, mature valley and blue oaks.
