Entomology and sustainable pest management

Current research

Safe and effective pest management products
We trial the latest pest management and natural plant defense-inducing products. We study product translocation and residuals in woody plants to determine timely applications that are safe for people and pollinators while maximizing product efficacy on pests.
Beneficial insect and pollinator conservation
We assess the application procedures of products to reduce off-target effects, promote conservation biological control, and preserve beneficial insect ecosystem services, such as pollination.
Efficacy of beneficial organisms in pest management
We trial the use of beneficial organisms and insect attractants to manage pests, such as aphids and scale insects.
Varieties, habitat design, and management for pest resistance
We research pest-resistant plant varieties, identifying those with higher levels of resistance. Additionally, we investigate landscape design elements that promote plant health and healthy ecosystems, greatly reducing the likelihood of pest outbreaks and the need for pest management interventions.
