Balsam woolly adelgid

Balsam woolly adelgid (BWA), Adelges piceae, is a small but significant pest of “true” firs (Abies). This insect is native to Europe and was first reported on the East Coast (Maine) around 1908 and on the West Coast (California) around 1928. Today, BWA is predominantly found in the northwestern and northeastern parts of the United States, but smaller populations are also present in pockets further south along both coasts.
