Tom Tyler

Tom has had a lifelong passion for plants. Pursuing this passion, he earned a bachelor of science degree in horticulture from Clemson and a master of science in plant breeding from Purdue. After two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer, Tom began a 16-year career as an Extension Agent, first in Indianapolis, IN and then Arlington, VA. Tom has been a commercial arborist for 15 years and a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture since 2002. He is a TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional.

Over the years, Tom has solved thousands of tree and plant maladies and trained hundreds of Tree Steward, Master Gardener and Urban Gardener volunteers. He co-authored the Indiana Gardener's Guide, has taught about woody plants in George Washington University's Landscape Design program and hosted a call-in garden radio show. He has also been a speaker at the Woody Plant Symposium at Chicago Botanic Garden and for garden and community groups.
