Scott Jamieson Joins Bartlett Tree Experts
Industry Leader Hired to Manage Corporate Partnership & National Recruiting Efforts
Underscoring the importance of building relationships with organizations both within and outside of the tree care industry, The F.A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company has hired Scott Jamieson, formerly President and CEO of The Care of Trees, Inc., as VP Corporate Partnerships and National Recruiting. This role was previously held by Frank Heisinger who passed away last year.
“Frank was an integral part of our company. He was both family and friend, someone I admired and loved. I know people across the industry felt his loss and, as you can imagine, the task of filling his role was daunting,” said Robert Bartlett Jr., Chairman and CEO of Bartlett Tree Experts. “While no one can replace Frank, Scott will bring a new energy and vision to the role. His business experience as well as his existing industry connections will be valuable assets moving forward.”
Echoing this sentiment, Scott stated, “I’ve always respected Bartlett and been impressed with Bartlett people – people like Frank Heisinger, who treated me as a welcomed friend even as a competitor. To me, it’s all about people and that’s part of what attracted me to Bartlett.”
In his new role, Scott will develop strategic relationships in the tree care and green industries and with other organizations that focus on landscape management. He will be an active participant in industry associations, maintaining a national presence for Bartlett while also facilitating interaction between these groups and Bartlett arborists on a local level. Scott will network with landscape maintenance companies, landscape architects, arboricultural consultants and large, national accounts on a regular basis. With the goal of further building partnerships to yield sales opportunities, he will also be the face of Bartlett at industry trade shows and events.
“The types of relationships I’ll be tasked with managing are critically important to a company like Bartlett,” commented Scott. “They are long-term, enduring many years and many people and resulting in increased business as well as referrals.”
In addition to corporate partnerships, Scott will oversee Bartlett’s national recruiting efforts. He has been an instructor at colleges and universities, and will continue this work to build a strong pipeline of talent for Bartlett over the years to come. Establishing recruiting programs, teams and models and tracking development of recruited employees will be just a few of Scott’s responsibilities. He will also work closely with schools participating in the Bartlett Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Bartlett Tree Experts to support the development of future arborists.
“I’ve known Scott for several years and he shares many values with Bartlett, one being a commitment to people” said Greg Daniels, President of Bartlett Tree Experts. “He believes that training and development are vital to a company’s growth. We’ve seen his expertise in this area benefit The Care of Trees over the past 20 years and now he’ll have an opportunity to put those skills to work at Bartlett.”
Scott has a long and respected history in the tree care industry, working his way up from an entry-level position at The Care of Trees in 1989 to CEO in 2002. During his career there, he led the company to record sales growth and spearheaded efforts to expand into new markets. He was also recognized for his work in leadership development as well as safety.
Since the beginning of his career, Scott has been a visible and active member in the industry. He is a board member of the Tree Care Industry Association and the National Safety Council and is a former board member for PLANET. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban Forestry from Purdue University, a master’s degree in urban forestry from Michigan State University and an MBA from DePaul University’s Kellstadt School of Business.
An avid proponent of environmental stewardship, Scott is involved in numerous organizations and associations where he helps others cultivate a passion for trees and realize their importance to our environment. To that end, he has helped train over 1000 citizens in Chicago’s Openlands TreeKeepers program and shares his knowledge with homeowners as an instructor at Morton Arboretum and the Chicago Botanical Garden.
“While on sabbatical, I thought a lot about what I wanted to do next. I realized that it’s the interaction between trees and people that energizes me and keeps me in this industry. At no time has this connection been as apparent as it is now with environmental awareness at an all time high,” said Scott. “This is a different role than I am used to playing, but it presents me with the opportunity to continue the work I love at a much larger organization that is more geographically diverse. I’m really looking forward to helping Bartlett in my own way and figuring out how I can make the best and biggest difference.”
Scott will be based out of Bartlett’s office in Northbrook, Illinois. He resides with his wife and two children in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Raised in Gary, Indiana between the steel mills and the picturesque sand dunes of Lake Michigan, Scott recognized early on the delicate balance of nature and industry and has been working to protect our urban forests ever since. As in his work life, he enjoys spending his personal time outdoors, relaxing with his family and participating in sports like flyfishing, tennis and basketball.
