On April 12, 2011, I along with my crew Rich Croft and Craig Bennett conducted an outdoor demonstration to Dr. Charles Maynard’s Introduction to Aboriculture class. This has become a yearly event where the students get to see what they have learned in class.
We discussed hazard tree evaluation and determining risk assessment. They got to see large tree pruning with an aerial lift truck and the latest rigging equipment and techniques after learning about job site safety.
After that, they got to see climbing equipment and shown safe and efficient ways to a enter a tree. Then we moved to a smaller tree discussing young tree pruning with respect to A300 industry standards and actually pruned a very “needy” hawthorn tree. We were fortunate to have the weather cooperate that part of the day since we encountered 19 consecutive rainy days in April.
