Winter wash is an old-fashioned technique first used by Victorian gardeners. Still practiced today, winter wash is highly effective in reducing over wintering insects and eggs on trees and shrubs.
During the first half of the 20th century many homes in the UK and Ireland grew a large array of fruit trees and garden vegetables. Gardens in those days had to produce for the kitchen and it was thoroughly routine to apply a horticultural oil to reduce the incidence of insects on woody plants.
Horticultural oil is still a material that we use quite often in assisting with the control of overwintering insects on fruit trees, lime, sycamore and any other ornamental tree requiring this treatment. Our Tree Health Care Truck carries out this treatment from November through to the end of February.
