You get your car inspected. You go to the doctor for check-ups. You give your lawn tractor once-over every year. Don’t forget about your trees. Autumn is the perfect time to have an arborist inspect your trees for damage, disease, decays, insects and weak spots.
Pest damage that occurred during the past growing season is often evident now and identification of insect infestations can aid in development of future plant health care programs. Soil samples can also be taken now and the analysis results used to plan next year’s fertilization and soil management programs.
Finally, now is an excellent time to inspect trees for structural issues such as dead and broken branches, splits and cracks in branches and root collar disorders. Treatment of these problems can be scheduled before winter storms could cause failure of stems and branches that could damage property and cause loss of the plant.
