Mites, aphids, and scale insects are emerging and populations will likely be high due to weather conditions this year. Treatments including the release of beneficial insects can be very effective for suppressing damaging pests, but must be timed appropriately. Now is the time to inspect for infestations to ensure treatments can be applied for maximum effectiveness.
The presence of mites, aphids or scale can result in wilting, thinning of the canopy, premature leaf drop, branch dieback, and in some serious cases, even death of the tree. These pests are not selective, feeding on most types of deciduous and evergreen species.
Early detection of pest infestations now is critical to preventing serious damage late this spring.
