The high winds and saturated soil conditions of monsoons can cause tree roots to fail or branches to weaken. While it is impossible to totally protect your trees, some basic maintenance may help them weather the storms.
Proper pruning is critical to a strong tree structure. Broken, hanging and weakly attached branches should be removed. Trees that are leaning should also be reinforced through staking or guy lines.
As extreme weather can make plants more susceptible to pests and disease, trees should also be inspected for these issues. Treatments to prevent infestations should be applied as needed. Fertilization and soil management as well as proper irrigation and mulching will also help keep trees healthy.
