Oak processionary moth (OPM) caterpillars can defoliate oaks (English, Sessile and Turkey). The caterpillars are a significant human health risk, as the older ones (instar ≥3) are covered in small irritating hairs that contain a urticating and sensitising toxin (thaumetopoein).
