Nothing makes a property feel more tropical than a palm planting in the landscape. Palm trees are vastly different than other tree species. It makes sense that palm trees require care, such as palm trimming and palm fertilization, from experts that understand the trees' unique needs. From the soil to the fronds, proper palm maintenance keeps trees healthy and looking their best.
Taking care of the soil in which palms grow is the first step. Palm trees require a high quantity of certain nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, and magnesium. In fact, potassium is one of the most common and widespread nutrient deficiencies in palms. Yellowing palms with discolored fronds often have low potassium levels. We can take a sample from the soil to identify any deficiencies so that treatments can be specifically customized to the site.
Another factor that can impact palms are insects and disease. Lethal bronzing, a bacterial disease that results in death of the plant, is one example that impacts many palm species. Fusarium wilt is another deadly infection that has a more limited range of palm hosts.
Regular maintenance also includes palm pruning. We can clean out seed pods and trim dead fronds that cling to the trunk before they become unsightly or hazardous. When necessary, sick palms or dying palms may need to be removed. Our arborists can expertly access trees for safe and efficient palm removal.
