Summer Tree Threats

Summer is a time of high activity for pests as well as tree diseases caused by fungi and other organisms. Some problems may be simply aesthetic, while others can be a real threat to tree health and vitality. As such, it is important to have an arborist inspect your trees to determine the underlying cause.

Lichen and Trees

So the trunk of your tree or shrub is covered in crusty green stuff – don’t panic! It’s unlikely that this ‘green stuff’ is harming the tree. What you are observing is the growth of lichen on the bark.

Look Out for Leaf Curl and Leaf Blister

Leaf curl and leaf blister are a group of diseases caused by the fungus Taphrina. These diseases are common in spring as the pathogens infect newly growing leaves, flower parts and fruits.

FIREBLIGHT - DISEASE NEWS

Fireblight disease is most severe during warm, moist springs and on poorly drained sites. The most characteristic and easily observed symptoms are wilting, and blackening or browning of the blossoms and leaves on the terminal shoots. The affected plant parts remain attached to the terminal and appear as though scorched by fire. A brown ooze develops then at the site of these cankers.

A Buried Root Collar Can Harm Your Tree

How do the roots look on your tree? Can you see the root flare? Trees are much healthier when excess mulch and soil are clear of root and trunk tissue.

Planting Trees for Arbor Day

We enjoyed spending Arbor Day planting trees with the students at Step Empowers Head Start.

Predatory Mites Lesson

Derek Furry, Bartlett Arborist Representative, with the Penn State Mont Alto Forestry class of sophomores. Derek shared with the students details on integrated pest management and the many different means for which to control pests on the landscape.

Rotary Club of Waynesboro Plants Trees

On Saturday at Renfrew's Earth Day Celebration, the club completed a year-long effort to plant 100 trees. Cardenas and Derek Furry, Rotarians and local representatives of Bartlett Tree Experts donated 150 small trees including Black Gum, Sassafras, Sycamore, Birch and Swamp Oak - all native to the area. 14 club members along with Cardenas, Furry, family and friends planted the trees.

What Our Customers Are Saying

Brad and Staff are exceptional folks and good representatives of Bartlett. It accounts for why after 20 plus years no one else has had a chance to even sniff at the business.
Ralph L., Gettysburg, PA

Everyone associated with the project was very professional. Work was completed exactly as the quote was written.
Mark M., Orrtanna, PA

Great service.
Joe O., Arendtsville, PA

Brad has been a valuable asset for twenty years in any aspect of home, church, and property owners association needs. He responds promptly, answers questions, explains situations clearly. It is a pleasure to work with him. Crewmembers know their job, work diligently with accuracy and safety, respond well when asked questions, take care of their equipment, and leave the sites clean and neat. The fact that we are not a big business has not had any affect on the quality or degree of service and attention.
Ralph L., Gettysburg, PA

Brad was very knowledgeable and helpful. The crew was efficient and neat. Our landscaping never looked better.
Dan J., Gettysburg, PA

Bartlett was professional, did the scope of work agreed to, and cleaned-up as if nothing took place.
Will R., Gettysburg, PA

Excellent job. Done professionally and incredibly quick. Past companies I have used took weeks before they arrived and often required a phone call. You all arrived a week before I was told you would be there. I will not hesitate to mention your services to anyone who I find needs tree work. Fred H., Gettysburg, PA

Great company, great workers, great service Ralph L., Gettysburg, PA
