When limbs have been trimmed from a tree, do you have to paint the tree where the limb was taken from?
Whoever told you not to bother painting the cuts was correct. Many years ago, it was thought this process would help ward off infections and prevent eventual decay of the cut. But decades of research have been unable to confirm any actual benefit. We only apply this process where we are removing larger caliper limbs in highly visible locations and only to lessen the obviousness of the cutting.
